Discounters have virtually doubled their market share in the UK over the last 5 years based on a number of factors:

  • There is a general shopping trend to more local, small format retail outlets

  • A pledge to source from Britain where possible
  • FMCG brands alongside good quality non branded lines
  • A ‘less is more’ approach to ranges
  • Catering for different shopper missions
  • A move to premiumisation in some departments
