ALDI joins duopoly’s price war: VIDEO

And in recent developments … ALDI has joined Coles and Woolworths in the price war, lowering the cost of its beef mince, carrots and brown onions, two days after Woolworths made similar changes.
ALDI is now selling 1KG of beef mince for $4.99/kg, carrots for $0.99/kg and brown onions for $1.49/kg.
An ALDI spokesperson said “As a discount retailer, ALDI will not be beaten on price. However, as a business, we do not support the introduction of pricing levels which are unsustainable in the long term, and may put pressure on the supply chain.”
In the past week, all three supermarkets have lowered their price of a 650g store-brand loaf of bread to 85¢ – about 4 cents per sandwich slice.
On Wednesday, Woolworths announced further reductions to the cost of some meat and vegetable products. Woolworths lowered the price of beef mince to $5 per kilo; carrots to $1.15 per kilogram bag (in NSW, QLD and VIC); and brown onions to $1 per kilo bag (in WA, SA, NT and TAS).
Coles lowered its beef mince to $5/kg in July 2013, and at the time of publish, was selling a 1kg pre-packed bag of carrots for $1.30 and 1kg prepacked brown onions for $1.80.
