Shops Fear Butt of Smokers Rage

STAFF selling cigarettes are bracing for an all-out assault from nicotine addicts forced to wait longer in queues because of plans to plain package cigarettes in Australia, claims one of the country's biggest grocery chains.
The claim that smokers will vent frustrations on staff is being highlighted by Coles in a submission to a senate committee.
Coles, with a staff of 90,000 nationwide, is part of the push to stop the Federal Government banning labels and restricting names to small print at the bottom of packets from August.
In a written submission to the inquiry, Coles corporate affairs manager Robert Hadler says staff will be forced to spend more time looking for cigarettes.
