The first Coles Local convenience store has opened in the Melbourne suburb of Ashburton. This was previously the site of a Shell service station and carwash. It is a departure from typical C-Stores with a greater emphasis on fresh foods, including produce, as well as groceries and more staff visible on the floor. This development is similar to some of the developments seen in the UK.
In addition more customer parking spaces have been allowed for what have become very congested forecourts due to the increased fuel docket traffic.
