Cadbury has teamed up with Deliveroo to deliver chocolate eggs to hospital staff and patients to try and make this Easter special, despite the impact of coronavirus on us all.

Gourmet cheeses, artisan loaves and specialty pastas and flour are now just a virtual click away, with the launch of Deliveroo Deli.

From Monday May 11, the delivery platform will be rolling out its new ‘Deli’ brand across the east coast in support of Aussie restaurant partners, small grocers and deli businesses amid the coronavirus crisis.

The service gives consumers a local and premium alternative to supermarkets for essentials like specialty flours, as well as quality food and wine.

The launch comes on the back of the Federal Government’s latest COVID-19 recommendations, with many states set to adopt new restrictions that would see household visitor limits increased to five people — the perfect amount for a dinner party or wine and cheese-fuelled gathering.

Among the 22 participating food businesses and restaurants are: Spring Street Grocer (Melbourne), Bel & Brio (Sydney), Salt Meats Cheese (Brisbane), Asado (Melbourne) and Agostini (Canberra).

Con Christopoulos, owner of Melbourne’s Spring Street Grocer, says passionate home cooks can now shop for such in-demand ingredients as 00 flour, fresh and dried yeast, capers and smoked paprika, as well as a range of ready-to-heat-and-eat meals made by local chefs from Melbourne institutions City Wine Shop and The European.

“The Deli has everything from dry-aged steak and bottles of wine to curry paste or cheese imported and matured by our cheese mongers — and paired expertly with our on-site sommeliers,” Mr Christopoulos says.

Many popular delivery apps have pivoted their business model amid accusations of price gouging struggling restaurants during the pandemic. Deliveroo has responded by expanding their pickup option nationally, temporarily halting commissions on pickup orders, and reducing commissions for “Marketplace+” orders to a flat five per cent, in cases where the restaurant arranges delivery themselves.
