A Melbourne supermarket operator will face court after allegedly underpaying young workers more than $11,000 over two years.

Said “Sam” Haddad, who owns the Fairfield and Altona IGA supermarkets, faces charges in Federal Circuit Court for underpaying six workers a total of $11,373 between 2013 and 2015.

The Fair Work Ombudsman alleges the workers, some as young as 19, were paid flat rates ranging from $15 to of $20 an hour and therefore denied overtime and penalty rates.
